RJI Official Rules
OFFICIAL RULES OF THE 12TH ANNUAL RANDY JONES INVITATIONAL presented by EDCO 2024/2025 CHAMPIONSHIP
1. Tournament Structure. The 12th Annual Randy Jones Invitational presented by EDCO is a 2-day Amateur Team Championship! The Championship will be played at Rancho Bernardo Resort, teams must 1st play in a Semifinal Tournament at Singing Hills Golf Resort at Sycuan. The top teams from the Semifinals will then be given their opportunity to play in the 2-day Championship. Teams must be comprised of four amateur golfers with the following Exceptions: (You can not have played in a professional money event in the past 5 years, teaching pro's are ok to play in the RJI). Handicaps will not be required. Players may only play in one Semifinal event per year. Official Scorekeepers will be provided at all of the holes for both the semifinal tournaments and the 2-day Championship. Entry fees for the 8 Semifinal tournaments will be $180 per foursome. The entry fee for the 2-day Championship Tournament will be $600 per player ($2,400 per foursome). Included will be two rounds of championship golf, Carts, Range Balls, Great Tee Prizes, lunch & drinks on the course both days. A short Awards presentation will be conducted outside by the snack bar at the conclusion of the tournament. In the event of rain, the tournament will not be considered official unless we get at least 18 holes of golf completed after both days of golf. If Saturday's rounds are not completed then we will pick back up on Sunday where we finished on Saturday. We will then play as much golf as possible on Sunday turning the tournament into a 18, 27 or 36 hole tournament. If all teams in contention still didn't finish at least 18 holes after Sunday then we would have the teams not completing their 18 holes complete their round on another date based on RBI's availability. Once 18 holes have been completed by all teams in contention the tournament will be considered official. All prizes, trips and opportunities for the million dollars and $10,000 contest will still be awarded at the conclusion of the tournament for either a 18, 27 or 36 hole tournament.
2. Rules of the Semi Final and the Championship Tournaments will be a 4-person team scramble format. Each team is made up of four players, each of the four members of the team shall hit one tee shot on every hole. The team then selects one tee shot and continues play from that point. This procedure is repeated until the ball is holed out. Each team member must play his/her shot from within one club length of the selected shot except when on the putting green where the ball can only be placed 6” from the selected shot. However, the ball may not be placed closer to the hole and before the one club length is taken if the selected shot was in the fairway, each player must place his/her ball in the fairway to play the next shot. Likewise, if the selected shot was in the rough, bunker, water hazard, fringe, etc., each member of the team must place their ball in, and play from, respectively, the same condition as the selected shot. In every instance, each team member may place the ball. In other words, all balls are played at preferred lies and winter rules. Team members may rake bunkers between shots. Once the team’s ball has reached the putting green, the ball should be marked, and another spot should be marked approximately 6 inches to the side (no nearer to the hole). This will allow the team to mark the ball so that all players can putt from the same spot without being disturbed by the ball marker. Once a ball is holed out, play is completed for that hole. Therefore, players need to putt out until all players have attempted the putt from the selected position. Local course rules apply for all out of bounds, water hazards, etc. The Tournament officials and the RJI Staff decisions will settle questions and determine regulations regarding course set up, rules, eligibility and scoring in its sole discretion. If there is a 1st place tie in the finals, the following will determine which team finishes higher as follows: This year we will have a sudden victory playoff with all 1st place ties, we will play hole #1 to start sudden victory & then if there is still a tie we will move to hole #2, if we still have a tie we will repeat hole #1. No hole in the playoff will start after 6pm. After 6pm the scorecards of each team during the final 18 holes on Sunday will be reviewed and scores on the #1 handicap hole will be compared. The team with the lowest score on the #1 handicap hole will win the tiebreak. If the teams have the same score on the #1 handicap hole, the comparison will move to the #2 handicap hole, then to the #3 handicap hole, and so on, until a winner is determined. If teams have the exact same score on all 18 holes, the winner will be determined by a coin flip. If there is a tie in the finals at Rancho Bernardo, there will be a sudden death playoff, starting with hole 1, if after 9 holes or darkness determined by the Course Pro, we will revert back to the final 18 holes played on Sunday and start with the #1 handicap hole looking for the lowest score, and so on, until a winner is determined. There will be no playoff for 2nd & 3rd place, we will move directly to the card off.
